You must make arrangements to visit the Atmospheric Boundary Layer Experiments (ABLE) by completing an ABLE Site Visit Request Form. The ABLE Site Scientist is Jerrry Klazura and he can be reached at 316/775-1290 or via e-mail at jklazura@anl.gov. Once arrangements have been made you will need to read the ABLE Safety Orientation before your visit and complete the Sign-off Sheet which states you have read the Orientation and will abide by its requirements. Sign-off on the Safety Orientation is good for one year.

Directions to ABLE Project Office, APO
13645 SW Haverhill Road, Augusta, KS 67010 (lat: 37.626N Long: 96.882W).
Site is located 3.1 miles south of Highways 54/96/400 (Kellogg in Wichita) on SW Haverhill Road .
Head east out of Wichita on Kellogg (also called US Highways 400 and 54) past Andover (State Highway 96 joins with 54 and 400 just west of Andover ) to town of Augusta. Continue east on Highways 54/96/400 for 5.0 miles past fourth (last) stop light in Augusta to Haverhill Road. Head south on Haverhill Road for 3.1 miles to top of hill on Haverhill Rd. ABLE Project Office is on west side of road. Just before you get there (at 2.9 miles) you will see house on west side with outbuilding that looks like one-half of a Quonset hut.

Directions to Beaumont ABLE Remote Sensing Site
13638 SE Ferrell Road, Beaumont, KS 67012 (lat: 37.627N Long: 96.538W)
Site is located three miles south of Highway State 96 and US 400 at Beaumont exit, just south of tall microwave towers.
Head east out of Wichita on Kellogg (also called US Highways 400 and 54) past Andover (State Highway 96 joins with 54 and 400 just west of Andover ) to town of Augusta. Continue east on Highways 96/400 for 24.5 miles past fourth (last) stop light in Augusta. Note that at 8-mile mark, US 54 heads north to El Dorado... do not take this highway! 16 miles further take a right at Beaumont exit. Head south into town. Road takes a right at hotel/restaurant, then a left over railroad tracks. After about a mile, road again turns right then left (At Squier Ranch). Continue heading south to just past the tall towers.

Option #1:

Head east out of Wichita on Kellogg (also called Highways 400 and 54) past Andover to town of Augusta. Go to second stoplight. Take a right onto Walnut Street. Head south on U.S. Highway 77 for 27 miles to Cowley County Highway 18. Take a right onto this paved highway, and head west for 4.9 miles to gravel road (white house on right). There is a little green sign on SW side that says :9Oxford Municipal Airport 1 mile southo/ooo. Take a left onto gravel road , and head south for 1.1 mile to site.

Option #2:

Take I-35 south out of Wichita. Exit I-35 at US 160. Head east on US 160 toward Oxford. In Oxford you will drive on a bridge over the Arkansas River. Continue on US 160 eastbound out of Oxford. From the Arkansas River bridge go 4.4 miles to 31st Rd (You will pass County Rd 3 at 3.3 miles). Turn left onto 31st Rd., and head north for 1.9 miles to the ABLE site at the airport.

624 SW 210th Street, Douglass, KS 67039 (lat: 37.521N long: 96.855W)
Site is located 700 ft north of 210th St., 1.4 miles east of intersection of Haverhill Rd. and 210th St.
Head east out of Wichita on Kellogg (also called US Highways 400 and 54) past Andover (State Highway 96 joins with 54 and 400 just west of Andover ) to town of Augusta. Continue east on Highways 54/96/400 for 5.0 miles past fourth (last) stop light in Augusta to Haverhill Road. Head south on Haverhill Road for about 10 miles to Smileyberg (first stop sign). (Note: Permanent ABLE Project Office site is located at 3.1 miles, at top of hill on Haverhill Rd.) Head east on 210th St. for 1.4 miles. Park car, and hike 700 ft north of fence to site.

Directions to Whitewater ABLE Remote Sensing Site
12900 E. 85th St. N., Valley Center, KS 67147 (lat: 37.841N long: 97.186W)
Site is located northeast of Wichita about 9 miles SSW of Whitewater and 10 miles WNW of Towanda. It is located three miles north of Kansas Highway 254 and one mile east of Greenwich Rd (also known as 111th St.).
Head east out of Wichita on Kellogg (also called Highways 400 and 54) to town of Andover. Take a left at stoplight (Andover Road). Head north on Andover Road to three miles north of KS State Highway 254. Take a left onto NW 10th. Head west on gravel road for three miles (road changes names to 85th St. N) to 127th St. East.
